ot placement update...(kinda boring, but some of you might be interested...)
I have my placement in Calgary which is really nice, b/c my dad can drive me to work in the morning, and I get to be at home for a while!...I"m in sub acute neuro rehab...so basically working with stroke and MS patients. It is super interesting, and I"ve learned a ton already in just a week! I've mainly just been observing my preceptor (the OT I'm working with), but next week i'm supposed to get to do more hands-on type stuff with a couple of our clients. I won't go into too much detail, but basically all we have been doing with clients it getting the one's who have had a stroke to work on their grasping with their affected hand, as well as working on some posture stuff with them. MS clients its more transfers (so from wheelchair to toilet, tub, bed etc) and dressing/grooming assessments. So far I have gotten to administer an screening test (for cognition basically) called the MMSE/mini-mental - its basically to see if they are oriented, can do simple math, tests short term memory...stuff like that.
and no news from jeff yet *sigh* I'm not sure if i should give up on that or not (and i haven't had time to talk to Oasis about him yet either - so that may shed some light on the subject...)
and that is all for now - I'm going outside to enjoy the last of the warm weather~

Denise!
We miss you. Glad to know that you are safe at home, we're a tad envious. Plus, I think Ratna might really need her mom right now seeing as she has developed a cold. Anyway, we're glad to hear that you find your work interesting and enjoyable. It sounds like you almost have a solid job. Makes me think that maybe i should start thinking about what to do after graduation. Do you get paid for the fun work or do you just get school credit and fantastic work experience?
We are also glad to hear that you went out. I remember you telling me about Jeff, it's too bad that he hasn't called, he did seem nice. Maybe you'll see him around when you get back to Edmonton. Stuff has a way of working out like that sometimes.
Anyway, we're both really glad to hear that you're happy and doing well. Are you planning on going to Dorothy's reception? We checked up on her new blog, it was "interesting" it would still be really good to see her though, it's been way too long. Say Hi to Kari and Marnie for us.
Really beginning to hope that you read your comments.
Love you and miss you,
Sam and Ratna

I totally read my comments!!! i love getting them (and no one usually leaves any...so you girls are my new favorite ppl :) haha)
And i sadly do not get paid -->its actually considered a course, so I have to pay for it which sucks! But it is excellent experience for sure!
I think I will probably go back down for dorothy's reception, its kinda too bad that its not while i'm still in calgary, but I think lauren will drive down, so i'll catch a ride with her! And I'll definetely say hi to kari and marnie...I will hopefully see kari this weekend, cuz last weekend she was working and looking after landy (sp?)
I miss you girls tons too! Its weird being in calgary, and not being able to call you here!
love always,
Denise
